Our Mission Statement and Purpose:
OUR MISSION IS To reduce cat overpopulation in the City of Bonita Springs by supporting and actively participating in the city-sponsored TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return) program, by providing cat food and veterinary assistance for fixed cat colonies, by offering access to low-cost spay-neuter and veterinary services for pet owners, and by initiating proactive bilingual educational outreach.
COMMUNITY CATS OF BONITA SPRINGS FL is a IRS registered non-profit organization focused on reducing the population of free roaming cats that can be found throughout the city of Bonita Springs and surrounding areas. These cats are known as feral, stray, community and homeless cats. Throughout our neighborhoods, unchecked populations have soared, causing a host of humane issues for the cats and quality of life issues for the people who live there. Our goal is to use humane Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) practices to reduce and control the cat population; provide more humane conditions for existing cats; improve quality of life for human residents; reduce the strain on area rescues and shelters caused by endless litters of kittens; and decrease the euthanasia rate of unwanted cats/kittens and thereby reduce the financial burden on local shelters and taxpayers. Whenever possible, we move friendly cats and kittens on to other organizations and shelters for adoption.
We are a volunteer organization that is totally dependent on donations. The primary use of our funding is for spay/neuter of cats - both outdoor/free roaming cats and adoptable cats, as well as vaccines and other care that may be needed for sick or injured cats, such as antibiotics, xrays, medications etc. When cats are sick or injured, we trap them again and take them to the veterinarian if they cannot be treated in their colony. Our volunteers actively trap, transport and provide aftercare of cats that are spayed and neutered. We provide hands-on help to residents who cannot do the work themselves, such as the elderly and those with physical limitations. We ask that people who are able bodied to assist in some way with trapping, transport or aftercare and we will provide guidance, coaching, tips and support however possible.
We also have volunteers who feed cat colonies throughout the city. We do not believe in "feed to breed" so feeders who need cat food assistance must have fixed (TNR) cats or be actively working on fixing their colony. We use grants and donations to stock our cat food pantry and we ask that those who can afford to feed their own cats to please do that and ask for assistance only when needed.
We love our Latino neighbors in Bonita Springs and we have Spanish-speaking volunteers to help them as well. Nosotros hablamos español !!
COMMUNITY CATS OF BONITA SPRINGS FL INC. was formed exclusively as a non-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (or corresponding section of any future federal tax code) and can only survive on the generosity of public donations and approved grants.
